I wasn't really excited about the trip to China. All I wanted was to get back home for diwali and looks like I'm gonna make it. I did have a good time in Shenzhen for all the anxiety people have about traveling to this country.
The place is a concrete jungle cramped up with towering buildings. I haven't seen a blue sky and the visibility is not more than a few 100 meters. The milk is contaminated. So are the chocolates and candies.
There's nothing ethnic/traditionally Chinese about the place. Its like any other IT city in India. Places to shop are huge shopping malls with designer and branded stuff. Got to see a movie at a multiplex. With popcorn. Nothing new eh? But the city is well planned and the roads n stuff are good. Much like Gurgaon I would say.
Sightseeing for me was only walking around on the streets. People do have those small funny looking dogs as pets. There were hamsters, rabbits and gold fishes for sale on the road. Was really tempted to buy them.
Food was not much of a problem. Had some really good food and also stuff which tasted very bad I should say.
Work was pretty ok. I've heard of siesta but these guys really do it here. After lunch all the lights go off and people sleep for an hour. Some even have their beds and eye-covers. Very funny. I also got to play ping-pong and showed the guys some tricks with the pen-hand ;)
There is a lot of emphasis on English education everywhere around with the coaching centers and things. The next generation of tourists shouldn't have any problems with the language I think but I'm not sure if they'd stop using pork and beef in everything that they eat here.
